Mama, I see you: you’re trying to get three square meals on the table, wrangle children to and fro, all while staying on top of Mount Laundry (and dishes!). You’re tired, (sometimes) cranky, and feel like you can’t function without caffeine. Hang in there; I’ll show you how to boost energy safely and naturally without drinking coffee or losing your mind.
In this post sponsored by BioRay, I’ll tell you about how the supplement Loving Energy has helped sustain me through the hectic season of our family’s big move! Read to the bottom for a chance to win a bottle of your very own!
Hey mama: your tired is showing
I’ve written extensively about how I suffered and later recovered from adrenal fatigue. Unfortunately, healing the adrenal glands isn’t a once and done deal, and my symptoms have cropped back up here and there when I’m under extra stress or I’m not diligent to support my adrenals.
Symptoms of adrenal fatigue include:
- abnormal fatigue
- blood sugar roller coaster
- excessive crankiness
- weight gain or loss
- insomnia or other sleep disturbances
- low libido
- hair loss
As you can see, adrenal fatigue is wracked with common symptoms that most of us struggle with from time to time, and while I’ve described some methods of healing those symptoms, I want to specifically address how to boost energy with an easy herbal supplement, as well as some simple lifestyle suggestions.
Low energy is the number one complaint I hear from fellow moms and women. Personally, I couldn’t make it through the day without a nap when my kids were babies, but these days, I know how to support my energy levels, and despite being in one of the most stressful seasons of my life, I’m able to get through my days productively.
How to boost energy
From diet, to exercise, to supplements, there are lots of ways you can boost energy levels every day! Let’s take a look at a few options.
Diet- If you want to have more energy, you’ll have to commit to eating well. Depending on caffeine and sugar for a boost of energy will be fleeting and leave you crashing. Instead, focus on clean sources of fuel like:
- good fats like grassfed butter or ghee, coconut oil, avocado oil, pastured animal fats, and olive oil
- grassfed meat and eggs
- organic produce, including lots of leafy greens
- grassfed, raw, and/or cultured dairy (if tolerated)
- homemade broth and meat stock
Avoid:
- sugar
- refined grains and starches like wheat and corn
- processed dairy
- gluten
- legumes like peanuts and soybeans
Eating foods with difficult-to-digest proteins requires an increased amount of energy to be diverted to digestion, robbing it from other systems and processes. This is why you become sluggish and sleepy after a big meal containing lots of grains or refined sugars and carbs.
Exercise- You may be surprised to hear that the cure for what ails you is not found in a hard workout at the gym. Actually, when you’re suffering from fatigue, gentle exercise like light jogging or walking and stretching or yoga is perfect.
This gentle exercise can also help to decrease stress levels.
Decrease stress- You will likely find yourself to be excessively fatigued during times of high stress. While you can’t always avoid stress altogether, you can negate your body’s reactions to it by:
- taking slow, deep breaths throughout the day, as often as you remember, and especially during moments of high stress
- getting plenty of rest (most of us need a minimum of 8 hours!)
- stretching or yoga
- prayer or meditation (daily quiet time is a MUST!)
- setting aside “me” time, even if it’s just a bath in the evenings after the kids are in bed (one of my favorite, mandatory indulgences!)
Even when I focus on the above ways to boost energy, I find that key supplementation makes a huge difference in my energy levels.
What can I take for a boost of energy?
I’m so glad you asked. I recently joked that a supplement I’ve been taking to boost energy and relieve stress has become as essential as the air I breathe!
I’ve told you about how BioRay Kids’ supplements have helped my kids with better focus and gut health. Their parent company, BioRay, makes a variety of products formulated to support the body, including those for detox, immune support, nourishment, and energy.
How to boost energy:
Loving Energy is created using traditional Chinese medicine as a kidney tonic. Its calming and restorative ingredients are often used for relieving stress and exhaustion, as well as supporting the lungs and the adrenal system.
Especially created for parents and those who care for others (hello four kids!), this tonic restores vital energy when one is giving rather than receiving.
Interestingly, adrenal fatigue is considered a “kidney deficient” pattern in Chinese herbology. Loving Energy is perfect for individuals who are anxious, tired, or overwhelmed, with a touch of brain fog or for individuals who experience the seasonal sniffles, as it’s designed to balance the body’s histamine response.
Loving Energy:
- replenishes adrenals*
- supports the lungs and kidneys*
- restores creative energy*
- relieves stress and exhaustion*
- balances histamine response*
- improves focus and feeling of well-being*
- is recommended for children and adults*

Because of Loving Energy’s unique adrenal-supporting ingredients, I have found it to be an essential supplement during times of high stress (like now- while we’re selling our house and preparing to move!).
The ingredients in Loving Energy are actually known as adaptogens, which I’ve mentioned before. Adaptogens have the ability to adapt to give your body what it needs: they both energize and bring calmness.
Adaptogens are especially supportive for the adrenals because they help the body deal with stress while supporting its ability to cope with anxiety and fight fatigue. They work synergistically with your body to bring it into balance, adapting to your body’s needs, providing energy, but also bringing calm.
Best of all, adaptogens reduce stress and balance cortisol levels in order to reduce strain on the adrenal glands.
The organic adaptogenic herbs you’ll find in Loving Energy include:
- solomon seal root
- eleuthro root
- reishi mushroom
- licorice root
- schizandra berry
- + purified water and 20% grain neutral spirits as a preservative.
Solomon seal root is a favorite kidney yin herb, also well known as a restorative for mental vitality.
Eleuthero root helps increase mental and physical endurance and is commonly used by Russian Olympic athletes.
Reishi mushroom is a superior “king herb” that supports the nervous system and has anti-stress activity.
Schizandra berries help with relaxation and staying alert.
Licorice root helps lower cortisol levels and boosts the immune system.
